SAFE AND SOUND is open from 8:00am-6:00pm, Monday to Friday, with the exception of statutory holidays and pre-determined vacation closures.
SAFE AND SOUND offers a child-led curriculum, focusing on the ever-changing interests and life experiences of our children and what is happening in the world around them. Life skills, from literacy to social skills, are incorporated into all elements of the program. Activities include, but are definitely not limited to:
Activities In the Indoor & Outdoor Playspaces:
-Literacy and numeracy development activities
-Music and dramatic play
-Outdoor play, sports and active games
-Puzzles and small motor activities
-Exposure to basic French
-Fitness activities and large-motor skill development
-Construction and blocks
-Expressive and sensory art activities
-Individual quiet activities and story time
-Guest programming (such as drumming lessons, yoga and drama classes)
Activities In the Community:
"Big" Field trips (approximately one per month)
* some of our field trips have included: the local fire station, Christie Pitts park, Solar Stage Children’s Theatre, High Park, Riverdale Farm, The Beach, and more!
Regular outings (daily, weather permitting)
* Greenwood Park, Leslie Grove Park, Hideaway Park, the Jones Public Library, Lil' Bean n' Green, Leslieville/Riverdale drop-in centres
* monthly visits to a local seniors' residence for music, crafts and some wonderful relationship development with residents.
*such as baking cupcakes at a Leslieville bakery, visiting a Leslieville dog groomer’s studio, students from a Leslieville music school coming in to perform for us and expose us to their instruments...and more!
